On January 8th, 2020, Chairman Ban Ki-moon visited the GEMS World Academy in Dubai to meet the GEMS World Academy Model UN(GWAMUN) Secretariat students.
As MUN Ambassador of the GEMS World Academy schools, Chairman Ban encouraged global citizenship and leadership during this meeting. He stressed “Whatever leadership you may take, you should have a global vision.”
Ban also emphasized the role of youth and educators in the global journey towards sustainability. He said “It is critical that today’s youth take on responsibility for the world we live in from an early educational platform, and it is essential that educators empower students to talk about issues such as the environment and sustainability so that we can limit any adverse effects on our future generations.”
Before the opening ceremony of the GWAMUN, Chairman Ban also met with Korean students at the GEMS World Academy for a Q&A Session on the SDGs.
GEMS World Academy Dubai is holding its first MUN Conference from January 9-11, 2020. MUN is an educational simulation and academic activity in which students can cultivate global citizenship and learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.
